diya — object

a small unlit Indian clay oil lamp, hand-pressed from river clay, unglazed and completely matte — never brass, never shiny. A softly asymmetrical shallow bowl about the size of a small orange, its rim rising slightly higher on the wick side like a tiny cupped hand. The outer clay is earth brown (#8B5E3C); the inner bowl is a much darker brown (#4A2F1A), stained by years of flame and oil. A single small neem leaf is pressed into the outer surface as an impression in the clay. A simple cotton wick rests in the bowl, its tip slightly blackened
